Front cap seam

Common leak point
What fails
The joint where the front cap meets the roof takes the most wind load and chassis flex, so its lap sealant cracks and lifts first.
How to check
Run a finger along the whole bead. Look for hairline cracks, shrink-back from the edge, gaps or lifted corners.
Typical fix
Clean off loose sealant, then run a fresh bead of lap sealant made for your roof material. Use non-sag where the seam turns vertical.
Planner

RV roof care planner

Answer five quick questions and get a 12-month maintenance schedule you can drop straight into your calendar.

3months between roof inspections
4cleanings a year
2years between seam reseals

Intervals follow the ranges in our guides: inspect every 3 to 6 months, clean 2 to 4 times a year, reseal trouble spots every 1 to 3 years. Add a check after any severe storm.

    Weather check

Is it a good day to reseal?

Check your conditions against the dry, 50 to 80°F application window, or pull the live forecast for where you are parked.

    Use the live forecast

Forecast from Open-Meteo. Your location is only used for this lookup.

    Or check it yourself

Guidance from our resealing guide: most sealants and coatings want 50 to 80°F, low humidity, no wind-blown debris and 24 to 48 dry hours to cure. Your product label always wins.

      Calculator

Enter your roof size and what is mounted on it for a rough shopping list of coating, sealant and tape.

      Roof size

      0sq ft of roof
      0gallons of coating
      0tubes of lap sealant
      0rolls of seam tape

A planning estimate, not a quote. Coverage varies widely by product, surface and application thickness, so check each label and buy a little extra.

      Calculator

      RV leveling calculator

Work out how many block layers the low side needs, or use your phone as a level to measure the tilt.

Pads add stability, not height. Check your blocks' weight rating and the maker's stacking guidance before you drive up.
